Severe thunderstorms that swept Indiana overnight caused significant property damage and cut power to nearly 30,000 homes and businesses.

Posey County emergency management director Larry Robb says that damage was caused by a tornado in southeastern Illinois that killed one man.

Residents say they’re devastated by the damage. Several trailers were totally destroyed, roofs and windows ripped away from homes and downed trees causing damage to vehicles. No severe injuries have been reported in the Hoosier state.

Other parts of the Midwest experienced more severe damage. Authorities say a tornado that killed a man near Perryville, Missouri, destroyed more than 100 homes in the area. About 20 other people in the county suffered minor injuries.

Forecasters say the spring-like storm system may have spawned a tornado near a mall south of Nashville, Tennessee.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
