12 Mar Part Of Bloomington Rail Trail Closed To Remove Invasive Species
Bloomington Parks officials are closing a section of the Rail Trail this week to removes invasive species.
The Parks Department is working with Eco Logic to remove about six acres of primarily – Asian bush honeysuckle and purple wintercreeper. The plants have taken hold on both sides of the trail.
The area between Country Club Drive and Rhorer Road is scheduled to be closed through Friday.
Crews are using a compact rubber tracked loader with a mower attachment to remove the plants. They won’t be using herbicides this week. Crews will however use herbicide as part of an ongoing maintenance program.
City landscaper Joanne Sparks said in a press release that future plans include planting and native plants and grasses along the Rail Trail.
