450 North Brewing Co. in Columbus, Indiana is preparing for a unique fall beer festival. They’ve planted rows of corn in a large field, and will later cut the corn into a maze. The beer festival will be setup throughout the maze on Oct. 1.

“We came up with the idea for a corn maze first as an event to have in the fall,” says David Simmons, who owns 450 Brewing Co. with his wife. “Then it quickly turned into, let’s have a beer festival.”

The design for the maze leaves room for breweries to set up stations for beer samples.

Breweries from throughout the state, and one from Kentucky, will be setup inside the corn maze. They’ll be offering samples.

Simmons plans to have live music inside the maze, as well.

“We’re tying in craft beer with agriculture because after all, beer is made from grain and hops,” Simmons says. “Those people who have never had an experience of coming out to a corn field or a farm will be able to not only enjoy the farm but the craft beer aspect of it as well.”

By fall, Simmons expects the corn to be 7 or 8 feet tall. Corn maze designing and cutting professionals from Utah are visiting the farm this week to begin work on the design.

“In future years we hope to make this even more popular…bigger, make it more of a regional draw, and make it a very popular event for the state of Indiana,” says Simmons.

Simmons is selling tickets ahead of the event. Ticket sales will be capped at 2,000.
