11 Oct Bloomington Black Lives Matter March Draws Hundreds, Stops Traffic
Property damage was reported after protesters involved in the Black Lives Matter movement in Bloomington rallied and blocked traffic for about 30 minutes before dispersing.
Protestors Monday night flung themselves in front of cars, banged on hoods and yelled at drivers in Bloomington. One motorist reportedly tried to slowly drive through the crowd and the windshield on his vehicle was smashed.
The demonstration started with speakers and a balloon release before hundreds stopped traffic by marching through downtown streets. No arrests were reported.
Protesters were unsatisfied with several issues, including a city police investigation into the 2015 death of Indiana University student Joseph Smedley of Indianapolis, whose drowning death was ruled a suicide. Police say foul play wasn’t suspected in his death.
